Воля (Will), January 1991

This paper’s name, the image of what looks to be a worker who has broken the chains that bound him, and its motto, “Everything to the workers, everything to the working class!” make it instantly identifiable as one of the many papers trying to rethink, re-present, re-animate a progressive Marxism as the Communist Party of the Soviet Union collapsed. The article at right is from a transcript of the founding Congress of the Communist Party of the Russian Soviet Republic, led by former Soviet functionaries, including one who led the abortive August 1991 putsch against Gorbachev.
